More information about Glastonbury Festival 2024

Where is Glastonbury Festival held?

Glastonbury Festival takes place on Worthy Farm in Pilton, a village in the county of Somerset. Pilton is a fifteen minute drive from the larger town of Glastonbury where the festival takes its name from.

When did Glastonbury Festival start?

The festival's history dates back to 1970. The first festival, founded by Michael Eavis, was held the day after the death of Jimi Hendrix and had roughly 1,500 people in attendance. The price of admission was one pound and included free milk from the farm.

What is Glastonbury Festival famous for?

Since it was established as a music festival, Glastonbury has grown and evolved to include everything imaginable under the umbrella of performing arts. The festival features live performances from some of the biggest names in music as well as comedy, circus acts, theatre and literature.

Is Glastonbury Festival a charity?

Glastonbury works very closely with three major charities, Oxfam, Water Aid and Greenpeace as well as supporting a number of local charitable organisations.

Is Glastonbury Festival held every year?

Ordinarily, Glastonbury takes place four out of every five years, with the fifth year being a fallow year to allow Worthy, which remains a working farm, to recover from the wear and tear of hosting a 210,000 party go-ers every summer. Given that the last fallow year was 2018, 2023 would have been the next one. The pandemic has enforced two consecutive fallow summers, giving the farm time to recover.  The Festival will therefore roll in 2023.
